How do I bypass the HDD password on a Toshiba laptop?
My boyfriend bought a used Toshiba laptop at a liquidation sale, so we are not the first owners. As I was working on it one day, it made a loud noise a few times and then it froze. I was able to move the mouse around but none of the programs I clicked on opened. I shut it down and upon restarting it, it prompted me to enter in the HDD password. We had a 30 day warranty but unfortunately the telephone number the guy gave us didn’t work. Clearly he conned us. So I was wondering if there was anyway to get back onto the computer without totally wiping out the system of our info or buying a program. There are really important things on there. Can anyone help me?
You bought a computer at a liquidation sale, and … I’m not seeing how you were clearly conned.
The loud noise could have been your hard drive crashing, literally. If you’re merely lucky, you managed to get a virus. I’m going with the former; it sounds like it corrupted the SA of the drive, and there’s likely a nonsensical password there.
There are ways of recovering it, but they’re expensive.
