is a profitable home answering service?
I'm thinking about starting an answering service home based. I wonder if it is profitable and if anyone has tried and failed or succeeded.
I think this kind of activity that was more successful years ago, before cell phones and voice mail. However, if you offer a specific type of client could work. An example would be contracting with several independent service, repair or construction people. When handling customer calls and appointments that you could make more productive – often this kind of work themselves because they like the job, but not as good skills in customer contact. One idea could be to seek some small public accounting firm in your area, and they are likely the same type of customers that could benefit your business. If you hit the right you can find someone who will give references (can discuss the payment of a fee). As for pay, it could take years to build the business, rather than add to the success of its customers better than you could do, and you need be good at receiving payment of their bills.
